20211122 -【Necrosis of the femoral head】A Welsh Corgi dog, THR surgery successfully

Wuhan Weiwei Animal Hospital of HubeiDr. Shao2022-01-07 536

A Welsh Corgi dog,4 years old, female, 21Kg. Earlier, the dog was found limp at home, walking abnormally, and even reluctant to walk on the ground. After diagnosis, hip dysplasia caused femoral head necrosis, which must be treated with surgery. After repeated consideration by the pet owner, he decided to choose total hip replacement surgery for his dog!

The director of animal hospital, Zhiwei Shao, led the team and Dr. Zhou to formulate a surgical plan. It seemed that everything was going well. During the surgery, Dr. Shao found that the dog's acetabular hyperplasia and infection were very serious, and the acetabular fossa had been completely flattened. These problems instantly increased the difficulty of the surgery!

Corgi dogs have a short femoral neck, severe anterior arch, muscular hind limbs. and the obesity of the dog leads to limited operation space, which increases the difficulty of the surgery, and the load of the implant is large. Therefore, the hip replacement surgery of Corgi is different from other dogs and cats, and it needs an experienced doctor to complete it together. In the end, the surgery ended successfully after more than two hours!

In this case of total hip replacement surgery, the BlueSAO universal hip replacement system was used for THR surgery. Implants: 18mm cemented cup, 10mm (+2) femoral head, and #4 biological femoral stem. The surgery was successfully completed and we look forward to the dog'searly recovery.

Thanks for Dr. Shao from Wuhan Weiwei Animal Hospital of Hubei province bringing the case.
