Breed: Bichon Frise, 8 years old, female, 7.8kg.
As a family member accompanying her owner for many years, Vk, a Bichon Frise, always appeared to limp when playing and walking, with a marked decrease in activity. Her owner had been feeding her painkillers for a long time, which did not solve the problem, and it became more prominent as she got older, so she was brought to our hospital for consultation. Upon visual examination, the right hind limb showed obvious lameness, and upon palpation, a certain degree of muscle atrophy was found. The hip joint was sensitive and dodging during palpation. X-ray film showed that the acetabular fossa of the right hind limb was shallow and there was obvious arthritis. Comprehensive evaluation showed that conservative treatment could not reverse its clinical symptoms. After thorough communication with her owner, a consensus was reached to perform a total hip replacement (THR) for the sake of the dog's future quality of life and animal welfare.
A detailed surgical plan was developed for this dog by using BlueSAO iBlueVet, the orthopedic planning software for precise preoperative planning, then, a new artificial joint was replaced with BlueSAO Micro and Nano Replacement System for the dog.
According to the standard X-ray measurement results, we used the 2# stem, φ14mm cup, and φ8mm (+2) head. In order to ensure the successful surgery, φ 8mm (+2) and φ 8mm (+4) heads are prepared on stand during the surgery. The surgery was performed according to the developed surgical plan. Best wishes for an early recovery.
Preoperative X-ray:
Preoperative DR was taken and four standard X-ray films (femoral AP, femoral LAT, pelvic AP, and pelvic LAT) were taken as follows.
