A Golden Retriever, 5 years old, male, 36.5Kg. He had weakness in the left hind limb, decreased exercise capacity, and intermittent lameness. The examination revealed that he had bilateral hip dysplasia, leading to degenerative arthritis of the hip. His left hip joint was more severe than his right, with obvious joint hyperplasia. Joint replacement is the best choice for large dogs. In the long run, animals can completely avoid the chronic pain associated with arthritis and can have better exercise capacity.
It was decided to use BlueSAO universal hip system for THR surgery. Implants: 28mm biological cup, 16mm (+3) femoral head, #8 biological femoral stem, 20mm lateral bolt. The surgery went well, and the dog was able to walk on the ground soon after the surgery. We wish him a speedy recovery.
Thanks for Dr. Zhou from Shenzhen YY Union Animal Hospital bring us the case.
