Breed: Border Collie, Weight: 27.5kg, Age: 5 years and
7 months, Gender: Male
This Border Collie has bilateral hip dysplasia and
severe secondary degenerative changes in both hips, with osteophytes covering
the both hip joint surfaces. Hip replacement surgery for such a case is highly
challenging. The difficulty lies in locating the original position and size of
the acetabulum and properly enlarging the femoral medullary cavity. Our
surgical team at Guangzhou YY Animal Hospital is used to such high-difficulty
cases.
Using Marker calibration on iBlueVet operating system,
we selected appropriate femoral stem prostheses and acetabular cup prostheses.
Preoperative planning included using a #6 biological femoral stem, 24mm biological
cup, preparing +0, +3, and +6 16mm femoral head prostheses, as well as an 18mm lateral
bolt. During surgery, we tested various models of femoral head prostheses
before deciding on the final one.
The planned implants are: #6 biological femoral stem;
24mm biological cup; +0, +3 or +6 16mm femoral head; and an 18mm lateral bolt.
